Interesting Facts About Hinduism:

20 Facts About Hunduism
The world is vast. So vast, in fact, that there are over one billion Hindus around the world. Most are concentrated in Sri Lanka, Nepal and India. Since India seems like it’s a world away, there are some misunderstandings about the religion. For instance, Hinduism is not technically a religion. And did you know Hindus don’t believe in millions of gods? With that in mind, here are twenty interesting facts about Hinduism.
  1. Hinduism is the oldest religion in the world. The earliest documents on Hinduism date back to 5,500 BCE.
  2. No one knows – or cares to know – who started Hinduism. There is no one founder of Hinduism; it’s a way of life. The religion has evolved throughout the years and will continue to do so.
  3. Time is separated into four yugas. At the end of the fourth yuga, all humans will die in an apocalypse, and a new era will come about. Each yuga lasts thousands of years, with one cycle lasting 4.32 billions years. Right now, we’re living in the second half of the final yuga. But don’t worry – the apocalypse won’t come for another 300 years.
  4. With the concept of yuga, Hindus believe in a circular concept of time, rather than linear. This explains why reincarnation is a central tenant of Hinduism.
  5. Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world. More than 1 billion people consider themselves Hindus, and 85% of all Hindus live in India.
  6. Sanskrit is the oldest language in the world, the “mother of all languages.” Every Hindu book is written in Sanskrit, and it is said that Sanskrit is the language of the demi-Gods.
  7. Speaking of gods, Hinduism is not a true polytheism. Hindus believe in one god, Brahma, who is manifested in thousands of other gods. It’s up to each Hindu which god they worship.
  8. Hindus have three main gods named The Trimurti. Brahma is the creator of the universe, Vishnu is the preserver of the universe, and Shiva destroys the world in order for the world to recreate.
  9. Basic concepts of mathematics, like the number zero, the decimal system, infinity and pi, were first used by Hindus.
  10. The number 108 is the most sacred number for Hindus. It’s the ratio of the Sun’s distance from earth to the Sun’s diameter, as well as the ratio of the Moon’s distance from Earth to the Moon’s diameter.
  11. Most Hindus are strict vegetarians. Cows are also viewed as sacred animals. Knowing they will never be eaten by Hindus, cows roam the streets of India.
  12. Thank your lucky stars for Hinduism – they invented the concept of marriage.
  13. The word “Hinduism” doesn’t mean anything, since Hinduism did not start out as a religion. It’s a made-up word used by Greeks and Arabs to describe those who are from the “Shindu” river. The way of life these people follow is called Hinduism.
  14. The ultimate goal for Hindus is to attain salvation.
  15. Rivers are viewed as sacred. But no other river is worshipped as much as the Ganges River. Every person’s sin is washed away in the river when he/she bathes in the Ganges, who is also considered a goddess.
  16. Om is considered the first sound from the conscious mind, and the sound that birthed the universe.
  17. If you go to an acupuncturist, thank the Hindus (and the Chinese) for the invention of acupuncture.
  18. Saffron is the official color of Hinduism, and the saffron flag is the official flag of Hindus.
  19. The lotus flower is a special flower for Hindus. It represents “goodwill, peace, prosperity and happiness.”
  20. Kumbh Mela is a pilgrimage Hindus take to the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. They go there in order to wash their sins away and help bring salvation. In 2013, 30 million people celebrated Kumbh Mela, making it the largest gathering of human beings in world history.

Giant Self-Rolling Snow Balls Found In UK:

These rare snow balls are formed in snowy weather with a precise combination of snow, ice, temperature, moisture and wind. They are normally found in certain parts of North America.
Giant Self Rollin Snowball
Self-rolling snow balls are also known as: snow bales, snow rollers and snow doughnuts. They get these names from the way that they are formed.
This winter in the UK has been a snowy one so far, and this has caused these snow bales to make an appearance in England.
Ron Trevett and his wife Aileen were walking their dogs close to their home in Yeovil in Somerset. They managed to photograph these rare natural structures.
“We saw them from a distance on the ridge of the field, and we thought some kids had been playing up there and making giant snowballs, but when we got up there we saw there were no footprints and there were hundreds of them – too many for children to have done it. We realised it must have been the wind.” said Mr Trevett.
In time the snowballs become too heavy and large for the wind to move, or they are get caught on different ground levels. The snow bails are normally hollow; this is because of the middle layers not being very strong. The formations can cave in easily if the temperature or wind changes slightly.
Frank Barrow – a lecturer in meteorology, explained that the rolls can only form in a specific set of strange conditions.
“They start off with nice thick layer of snow, with the top snow just on the point of melting either because of general temperature or sunshine on the surface, the top snow layer becomes a bit sticky, and you then need a fairly strong wind. The sticky layer can be peeled off the colder and more powdery snow underneath by the wind forming a roll. – I suppose it is a natural version of making a snowman.”

The World’s Most Expensive Foods:

Most Expensive Foods in the World
Now we all love food don’t get me wrong, and who can beat a nice meal in a more upmarket restaurant? But paying over $600 for a burger, or $150 for a pizza seems ludicrous – though if you have the money, why not! Here we’re going to look at some of the world’s most expensive foods, obviously this doesn’t list every type of food by any means but I’ve chosen some of the world’s favorites and those that are most common. So let’s begin!

Wagyu Beef

Wagyu beef is the world’s most expensive beef, costing around $275 a lbs for the meat itself, and a 2000 vintage cote de boeuf, or rib steak, costing $3200. Why is it so pricey? Apparently, for the steak at least, it’s due to the very small numbers of hanging aged Wagyu ribs and the very low stress levels the cattle are put through both during slaughter, with a specially designed abattoir, and during rearing.  Wagyu beef itself must come from a specific breed of Japanese cattle with incredibly high fat marbling, allowing the meat to in essence melt in your mouth. There is however budget versions offering Wagyu beef burgers at $4.40 for a pack of 2.

Civet Coffee

Civet coffee or Kopi Luwak is a type of coffee derived from coffee cherries that has already passed through the South Asian palm civet or Civet cat’s digestion system and a quick search puts the price at about $75 per 9 ounce pack. The cats eat the cherries for the fleshy pulp, and as the bean travels through its digestive system the enzymes seep into the beans causing them to change. After gathering, thorough washing, sun drying, roasting and brewing, these beans have a distinct flavor that’s much less bitter.

Saffron Spice

Saffron holds the title of the most expensive spice, with Spanish Saffron for example costing around $300 an ounce in Walmart. Saffron comes from the saffron crocus, this flower bears up to four flowers with each having three vivid crimson stigmas, these stigmas are handpicked, dried and then air sealed which kind of explains the price. One pound is the equivalent of 80,000 flowers or one acre, so use it sparingly.

Truffles & Mushrooms

Truffles are one of the most expensive ingredients in the world, with the white costing more than the black varieties. Truffles are held very highly in society and are incredibly tasty but in many peoples opinion the price is nothing more than a status symbol with white truffles costing up to $1,400 per pound. The Perigord, a black truffle, for example costs $1.47 – and it long weighs 0.03 ounce)! Matsasuke, a prized Japanese answer to the black truffle, holds the title for the world’s most expensive mushroom, costing around $1,000 per pound.

Belugan Caviar

The most expensive of all caviar and the world’s most expensive food is ‘Almas’ or Belugan Caviar which comes from the Iranian Beluga fish, a sturgeon. A kilogram (2.2lbs) of ‘black gold’ is sold for over $28,850. Almas is produced from a 60-100 years old rare albino sturgeon’s eggs which swam in the southern Caspian Sea which is much less polluted.

Juicy’s Outlaw Grill Hamburger

The world’s most expensive hamburger is expensive not due to ingredients but size. The burger sells for $5,000 and is made by Juicy’s Foods and Ovations Food services for Juicy’s Outlaw Grill, USA. This was a humongous burger weighing 777lbs. The most expensive normal sized burger, when discounting those that must be purchased alongside expensive drinks etc., would be the Honky Tonk burger in Glamburger, London, England. The burger costs around £1200 ($1500) and consists of a Kobe and Wagyu patty garnished in gold leaf, with lobster, caviar, venison, a duck egg and black truffle.

The Chocopologie

The most expensive chocolate concoction comes from Knipschildt, a Danish chocolatier. The Chocopologie is a $250 dark chocolate truffle, with a black truffle at its heart. It’s made of blended 70% Valrhona cacao combined with truffle oil to form a ganache and hand rolled before being dusted with cocoa powder. In terms of simple chocolate though, the To’ak wins. To’ak means earth and tree in Ecuadorian dialects and costs around $260 per bar this, according to To’ak, is because it’s made from the 5% of cacao labeled as ‘fine-grade’ whereas normal chocolate comes from the other 95%. With that price you’d hope it’d be the size of a baseball bat but no, the bar weighs just 1.5 ounces with a 7-8mm cacao bean in the center and must, for flavor, be eaten with wooden tongs. It takes 36 steps to produce and is 81% cacao mass and 19% sugar, that’s it.
So there we have it, there really are so many ways to spend a fortune it seems and it doesn’t have to be $100,000 watches or supercars, it can be on a pound of meat or fungi and why not? Because you’re eating it that’s why! Having said that, some of these do sound unbelievably tasty. Whatever you’re opinion on spending however much on these foods, you have to admit, if you have the funds for it, you’d love to try them even just once!

Differences Between Chewing Gum And Bubble Gum:

Chewing Gum

Bubble Gum

We chew chewing gum, and we blow bubbles out of bubble gum, apart from that, what are the other differences between these two products? Well, the main difference with bubble gum and chewing gum is the ingredients in them, bubble gum has a few ingredients which make it thicker so that it will stretch and hold together when bubbles are blown.
Chewing gum goes as far back as the Ancient Greeks and the Mayans; they chewed natural plants like masticas and chicle to refresh their breath.
Packaged chewing gum has been available in shops since the 1800s. Chewing gum generally lasts a while, releasing flavour slowly over time, this way it is more enjoyable. There’s also chewing gum which helps to keep your teeth clean. You are not supposed to swallow chewing gum as it can stay in your system for a very long time.
Bubble gum was first in our shops in 1906 but due to the imperfection of the ingredients, it was not very popular. When bubble gum was perfected, it finally became more popular to mainly teenagers. The reason for this is because it is stretches more than chewing gum, and it doesn’t leave a mess on your face if a bubble bursts.
Both bubble gum and chewing gum are normally sweetened and many companies add a type of flavouring to their gum. The main flavour chewing gum is mint, but it’s possible to find flavours such as watermelon and liquorice. There are usually more bubble gum flavours than chewing gum, for example you can get strawberry, blueberry, grape and many more. Some companies have added extra ingredients to their gum like caffeine, which helps people to stay awake easier.
So there’s not that much of a difference really, you chew both of them, they’re both there to freshen your breath, and they both come in a variety of flavours.

12 Habits of Unhappy People You Do Not Know (and How to Avoid Having Them):

Happiness is something that we all strive to attain. As human beings we can accept the fact that: (a) life is short, and (b) unhappiness makes our lives difficult. As is common knowledge, our habits have a big impact on the quality of life that we live; specifically, these habits directly impact our happiness (or lack thereof). To make a clear distinction, there is a strong difference between clinical depression and chronic unhappiness. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, while unhappiness is a disposition that is often acquired through how we choose to live our lives. Similar to depression, however, unhappiness can be diagnosed and treated.

HERE ARE 12 HABITS THAT CAN CAUSE UNHAPPINESS, ALL OF WHICH CAN BE AVOIDED

1. CHRONIC COMPLAINING

Happy and successful people do not complain much. On the other side, it seems that chronic complainers always have something negative to say… even when those around them are happy! The bottom line: we all have different circumstances that we are given in this lifetime, but in the end these circumstances are ours – fair or unfair, wanted or unwanted. Instead, seek solutions to problems instead of complaining, which leads to nowhere.

2. BEING CRITICAL – OF SELF AND OTHERS

How we talk to ourselves shapes our self-image, for better or worse. Self-worth is an essential component to our happiness, and feeling good about ourselves is a right that we all have. Realize when mistakes are made, accept them, and move on…don’t engage in negative self-talk. Further, respect the inherent differences of others and recognize their right to live happily and without undue criticism.

3. LIVING BEYOND MEANS

We live in a materialistic society, one where we are constantly bombarded with advertisements for the latest car, gadget, or credit card; all promising an easier, more fulfilling existence. Don’t believe it for a second. While purchasing a new product may provide a needed emotional boost, it doesn’t last. Ever heard the term “buyer’s remorse”? It exists for a reason. Instead, seek out something to do that doesn’t involve whipping out a piece of plastic – exercise, reading, sightseeing, etc. – anything brings satisfaction without the debt.

4. NEGATIVE ADDICTIONS

Most things are good in moderation – food, a drink or two, entertainment… it’s when these things take center stage in our lives that it becomes a problem. Unfortunately, many good people have met their end through addictive habits, especially through dependence on alcohol and drugs. A great preventative measure and remedy to these addictions? Finding and living our passions to the greatest extent possible (see #8).

5. REGRETTING THE PAST

Regret is not only useless, it can be extremely harmful. Research continues to show that repetitive, negative thoughts about decisions made in the past in often a precursor to chronic stress and depression. According to Psychology Today, there are four ways to cope with regret: (1) learn from mistakes but don’t dwell, (2) if nothing can be changed about the situation to let it go, (3) make sure too much blame is not being undertaken, and(4) reframing the situation more positively.

6. WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE

We only have so much say in what our future holds. This is not meant to disempower (quite the opposite); rather it is stating simple truth. What we can do is live in the present while fully exercising our God-given abilities and talents, enabling and empowering us to live a happier existence. There’s that phrase again: living in the present. Face difficulties as they arise and let them go. Enjoy the beautiful things in life and experience them fully…be present.

 7. BEING DRIVEN BY FEAR

Yes, fear can be an enabler to unhappiness. To fully understand this, we have to again go back to being present. Quite simply, we can’t allow fear of the unknown (and/or the unavoidable) to cripple our quality of life. Fear is a negative thought process that is often on auto pilot. Remember: we are not our negative thoughtsWe are not fear, worry, anxiety, or any other negative thought process.

8. DELAYING GOALS AND DREAMS

It’s relatively easy and effortless to get caught up in the routine of life: working, eating, sleeping, maybe even a day or two of doing something fun or relaxing. But here’s the thing: by not directing our talents and passions toward a positive and tangible goal, we potentially discard something great before its realization. The hardest part of living out our goals and dreams is taking the first step. After building a game plan taking that first step, only then can we see the possibilities.

9. GOSSIPING

Nothing exudes unhappiness and insecurity more than negative small talk about someone else. After all, why would a happy, confident person engage in something that is of no benefit? They wouldn’t. Gossip is something to be left to the kids at recess, not to adults attempting to make their lives (and others!) better.

10. HOLDING GRUDGES

Similar to other negative emotions, animosity is a needless weight on our backs. We are all witness to the negative behaviors of other people and can become (sometimes justifiably) angered as a result. But remember: this isn’t about their ignorant behavior; it’s about your happiness. Either forgive, forget, or ignore… and move on with your life.

11. EATING POORLY

Ingesting nutritionally-bankrupt food is all about immediate gratification. It’s certainly not about feeling good long-term, as eating poorly can result in bad health, weight gain, depression, lack of energy and decreased productivity; while having a well-balanced diet results in an entirely opposite effect – more energy, a healthy weight, mental alertness, and increased productivity. Eat right, look great, and feel great.

12. EXPANDING OUR PROBLEMS

When we experience unhappiness and discontent, our first reaction is almost entirely emotional. In other words, we blow things completely out of proportion. After all, we still have that darned “lizard brain” (amygdala) – the epicenter of negative emotions. Instead, just take a step back, look at the problem objectively (with minimal emotion), and focus on a solution!

The World’s Top 5 Longest Place Names:

The World's Longest Place Names
The world really is a weird and wonderful place full of beauty, laughter and some very strange places from Virgin Street to Bucket of Blood Street and some that simply challenge your lung-power. Here we’re going to look at the world’s longest place names, but please for your own safety have a large glass of water and a deep breath before trying to pronounce them. So let’s get down to it!
Azpilicuetagaraycosaroyarenberecolarrea
Fifth place is held by Spain with this 39 letter beauty spot, it’s nowhere near the contender for the top but extraordinary none the less. Located in Azpilkueta, Navarra, it’s Basque for “The low field of high pen of Azpilkueta”. Navarra is one of the greenest regions in Europe with over 70% of electricity coming from renewable sources and for a long time was seen by the EU as the ideal outcome for all of Europe.
Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein
In a very close fourth with 44 letters, this farm is located in the North West province of South Africa. It’s Afrikaans for “The spring where two buffaloes were cleanly killed with a single shot” and holds the title for the longest one-word place name in Africa. Anton Goosen has a song titled ‘Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein’ on his 2014 album Putonnerwater. South Africa seems to love their long place names, they also have the smaller ‘Bovenendvankeelafsnysleegte’ a farm in the Upper Karoo, and although this doesn’t make the cut for this particular list, it’s still undoubtedly impressive.
Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg
Coming in third place with a slightly more impressive 45 letters is the US. Lake Chaubunagungamaug, the shortened and more common name for this otherwise beautiful location, is located in Webster, Massachusetts. Deriving from the Nipmuck language, it means “Fishing Place at the Boundaries – Neutral Meeting Grounds” and is the longest official one-word place name in the United States. This appeared, in all its glory, as a potential street address for the fictional Dragonfly Inn in TV’s Gilmore Girls.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
In second place with 58 letters is a location much closer to home for me, Wales. Also known as Llanfair PG or Llanfairpwll, This is Europe’s longest place name with many believing it holds the world title. Llanfair PG is Welsh for “Saint Mary’s Church in a hollow of white hazel near the swirling whirlpool of the church of Saint Tysilio with a red cave”. For anyone thinking about trying to pronounce this, Blackadder put it best “You need half a pint of phlegm in your throat just to pronounce the place names.” The name was used as a password for Dildano’s headquarters in the 1960’s cult film ‘Barbarella’.
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu
At number 1, New Zealand with an astonishing 85 letters! Taumata, the shortened version of this behemoth, is located on the North of the island and is Māori for “The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who traveled about, played his nose flute to his loved one”. This is, according to the Guinness Worlds Records, officially the world’s longest place name. Taumata appears in numerous songs and popular culture including Quantum Jump’s “The lone Ranger” and, weirdly enough, a Mountain Dew jingle.
So there we have it, next time you moan about having to enter those “long” addresses, feel sorry for the Kiwi’s having to type in their favorite picnic spot at the summit of Tamatea, or those Welshmen catching the train in Llanfair PG. I personally won’t be complaining unless the address is longer than the alphabet, a new rule I think. There are obviously plenty more place names that are insanely long, but you have to stop at some point and anything less than 35 characters doesn’t seem anywhere near as mammoth as 85!

Interesting Facts About The NFL:

NFL Facts
The NFL is America’s most popular sport with tens of thousands of dedicated fans showing up every Sunday, Monday or Thursday to watch their favorite teams play. The league has a long history, with lots of rule changes and team changes along the way. Many NFL fans pride themselves on knowing obscure facts about the league and there are plenty of them to go around. Check out this list of 10 interesting and fairly obscure NFL facts!
  1. The Green Bay Packers have a notoriously enthusiastic fan base and it shows in the lengthy wait time for a ticket. If you signed up for the season ticket waiting list today, you’d probably end up waiting close to 1,000 years to get a spot.
  2. The New England Patriots were almost known as the BS Patriots or Bay State Patriots. They started out as the Boston Patriots, but once they moved to their current home in Foxborough, the owner wanted a name more representative of the region. However, his name didn’t last long as the NFL wasn’t fond of the initials.
  3. If you’ve ever wondered why the Pro Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, Ohio, it’s because of the Canton Bulldogs who did not lose for 25 straight games between 1921 and 1923. Jim Thorpe also played for the Bulldogs at that time.
  4. Only one team has ever won three NFL championships in a row and it wasn’t during the Super Bowl era. That team was the Vince Lombardi-coached Green Bay Packers between 1966 and 1968.
  5. Kickers and punters tend to play a long time in the NFL and the only players not at these positions to play in over 300 games are wide receiver Jerry Rice and quarterback Brett Favre.
  6. The Dolphins and Patriots are known for their undefeated regular seasons, but the Chicago Bears also did it twice in 1934 and 1942. However, the Dolphins have the distinction of taking it through the postseason.
  7. The team with the most retired jersey numbers in the NFL is the Chicago Bears with 13. The Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders have a prolific history, but no retired numbers because they don’t believe in it.
  8. The youngest Hall of Fame inductee is Gale Sayers at 34 and the oldest is Ed Sabol, who was 94 upon being inducted.
  9. Back to back championships are rare and there have only been eight in NFL history. Only one team has pulled it off twice, and that was the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  10. Most NFL fans know about the Buffalo Bills going to the Super Bowl four straight times in the 1990s and then losing each one. However, they aren’t the only team to go to four Super Bowls and lose. The Minnesota Vikings did it as well, only it wasn’t four straight, just four within eight years.

Interesting Fact..!!

THERE’S ACTUALLY A BLIND SPOT IN OUR VISION, BUT OUR BRAIN FILLS THE GAP.

Blind-Spot-Tests

The blind spot is a very common phenomenon among vertebrates. It is because the light-detecting photoreceptor cells are absent in the area where the optic nerve passes through the retina. Because of that, the corresponding field of vision becomes invisible as no light is detected from there by our eyes. The phenomenon was first discovered in the 1600s by Edme Mariotte in France. Until then, the point where the optic nerve enters the eye was thought to be the most photosensitive part of the eye.

Goodbye Gun Emoji, Hello Water Pistol..!!

Water Pistol Emoji Replaces Gun
With the latest release of iOS 10, many of us are all excited about the newest features, including deleting default apps we never use! It’s about time Apple – I don’t want your iBooks… or your News.
It also brings wonderful features such as changing the intensity of your flash light, finding where you parked your car, and some type of futuristic photo searcher; you can literally search for what’s in the photo – crazy!
But with all these new features in iOS 10, there’s really only one question on everyone’s mind… what happened to the gun emoji? Well, I’m sorry to say this but, it’s gone, gone forever!
So what will replace the empty space where the pistol once lived? Well, we can tell you it’s a fluorescent green water pistol. But why did they change this?
Well it all started with a bug report from 20th June 2016, where Neven Mrgan reported a bug that stated:
“The current “pistol” emoji is a realistically rendered lethal weapon. As the spec doesn’t require it to be this way, Apple would be doing a service to society by changing this image to a plastic toy gun, such as a bright pink or green water squirter.”
“Emoji should not be a reminder of the weapon causing tens of thousands of deaths in the US every year.”

Because of this bug report, the gun emoji has now been replaced by a water pistol.

National Two Different Colored Shoes Day:

National Two Different Colored Shoes Day
Who doesn’t love a reason to be unique or weird for a day? Well this special holiday might just be what you’re looking for! National Two Different Colored Shoes Day is celebrated on the 3rd May every year by simply wearing two different colored shoes. So if this is something you or a friend would like to take part in, make sure you read the facts about this crazy holiday!
I’m not sure about you, but that sounds like something I’m into! Whilst this day isn’t actually an official national holiday, it has been made popular over the years by many people including its founder.
The day was founded by a lady named Dr. Arlene Kaiser. She came up with a small way to help people break free from normality. Arlene Kaiser founded a day where we could challenge people to be a little different and in that way celebrate the uniqueness that comes with being human. So if you plan on stepping out of your box, then the third of May is a good day to do it!
There isn’t a great deal of information on this special day; however Two Different Colored Shoes Day began in 2009 by Kaiser, who has been doing crazy things like wearing shoes with mismatching colors since the 80’s! So it is pretty obvious that Two Different Colored Shoes Day is just part of Arlene Kaiser’s colorful personality.
Other than wearing mismatching footwear, there are several other things you can do to celebrate this day. You can celebrate by spreading the word and telling your friends, family, or other loved ones about how much you love their unique traits and qualities.
