If you have ever left your house before, you would have seen grass. Apart from cows eat it, what other facts are there to know about grass?
There are over 6000 different species of grass in the world; some examples are rice, wheat, corn, oats and sugarcane. Grass is the familiar name given to the family of plants known as the graminae. The sizes vary from short lawn grasses, to as tall as 40m, which is 120 feet.
Twenty percent of the earth’s vegetation’s main ingredient is grass. There are some plants from 1000 years ago that are still living today.
Because of the high demand of artificial grass for such places as sport arenas, the grass producing industry is multimillion dollar business.
Bamboo is a type of grass; pandas feed of this and grow to become big pandas! Grass has been used to make paper, fabric… even houses are sometimes constructed by bamboo and straw.
Most alcoholic drinks contain some type of grass, including beer and whiskey Sugar and bread are made from a type of grass too.
Finally, if you’ve ever wondered why grass is green, it is because of the chlorophyll, the chemical found in most plants, which gives grass its green colour.
