Indian police arrest Twenty20 cricketers over match fixing...

Cricketing authorities suspend three players from the Indian Premier League.

India cricket protests

Indian cricket was hit by a new scandal on Thursday after police in Delhi revealed they had arrested three players in the country's fast-paced and glamorous one-day Twenty20 tournament for allegedly fixing games.
The men, all with the Rajasthan Royals team which plays in the IndiaPremier League, have now been suspended by Indian cricketing authorities.
Seven Mumbai bookies and three in Delhi have also been arrested.

India's Shanthakumaran Sreesanth

The IPL is the richest cricket league in the world. The two-month 20-20 competition attracts the world's best players on large contracts.
But the competition also generates huge levels of gambling, especially on the subcontinent.
Low-level players have previously been caught on camera in media stings discussing spot fixing and agreeing to rig their own performances in exchange for bookies' bribes. Sreesanth, however, is by far the biggest name to be implicated.
Spot-fixing is betting on the result of a certain ball or over, or the performance of an individual player, rather than the result of a match.
